... Now I know my ABCs!

No new photos this go-round, but.... I just wanted to quickly capture Tripp's new "thing" so I won't forget.  But first, some background...

Since he was born, I found that the easiest song to sing to him when he's upset or has been in the car seat too long, is the ABCs.  There were a few reasons for this, namely:

  • The tune is catchy and features only a few notes.
  • I always remember the 'words,' regardless of how sleep deprived I am.
  • It's somewhat educational - well, more so than Itsy Bitsy Spider, another favorite.
  • It's short and not too annoying to sing 3,023,938 times on a single road trip.
Well, all my singing has finally paid off, or come back to bite me --- depending on your perspective.  Tripp has now memorized the *tune* of the ABCs, and hums it constantly.  When not humming the tune, he does not sing the letters, but rather screams random sounds in the tune of the ABCs song (which is the same as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, by the way).  It sounds something like OH, EE, EW, AH, OH, HA, HE.

He has begun to know where some letters belong, so after I say "double-u, X" he will interject with a very loud and enthusiastic "Y." --- which is pretty cute.

His daycare teachers (bless their hearts) have noticed this, and think it's "cute" that he is humming in the corner while playing with toys.  None of them picked up on what the tune was, but after I told them the story, they confirmed that yes, in fact, he was humming the ABCs tune.

Anyway, I apologize for dragging out this boring tidbit of Tripp's life, but it is one of those memories I fear I will forget if not for this journal.... er, blog.

Happy Hump Day!
Meg
