Tripp's Birthday Celebration #1 & Engagement News!

Howdy! Happy June!  Long time, no blog... I've been on a break from the blogging world as the Roughens have been doing some traveling (both for business & pleasure) and I have recently accepted a new job (same company), which is taking up a lot of my time.  Transitions are tough, especially during the time when you are doing anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 jobs at once! ... but I digress.  Let's get to the goods...

Hard to believe we're talking about Tripp's VERY FIRST BIRTHDAY, which is officially June 7, 2012 at 7:30 pm!  This was resolution #4 for 2012, and we started it off with a bang.  For the occasion, I am back from my blogging hiatus to share a couple of photos from the celebration.  This year, we decided not to do a kids' party in Atlanta with Tripp's contemporaries.  Instead, we'll celebrate with each of our families, and save the kiddo party for the 2nd birthday.  Below are some photos from our first celebration, at the lake amongst the Ferguson side of the family.

In other news, Congratulations are in order for my cousin Trey, who recently proposed to his sweet girlfriend, Sarah.  They are too cute and we are excited to have a Californian (er... Left Coaster) joining our family! Cheers to the happy couple!

Fear not... for, I do plan to write one of those first year re-caps (like I did at 6 months) but it will not be in time for the official birthday.  Too many irons in the proverbial fire right now.

Tripp's Infant Class Photo

Recently, the daycare took class photos.  You may remember the individual photos from a while back, well this is the entire class.  9 infants. Wow.  The thought of trying to get 9 infants to do anything at the same time is... well, hilariously amusing, yet miraculously possible.  See below.

Derby Day 2012! ... I'll Have Another

For this year's Kentucky Derby, our friends, the Avants, invited us to spend some time with them while watching the most exciting 2 minutes in sports.  Their son, Richard, is just a few months older than Tripp, so these boys are already enjoying playing with each other.  Below are some photos from the boys eating hot dogs together, and of Tripp exploring one of Richard's cool toys.

Resolution 5: Attend an Atlanta Spring Festival

Yet another of Tripp's resolutions was knocked off the list recently as we attended a few of Atlanta's famous festivals.  We first attended the Sweetwater 420 Festival in Candler Park.  Here, we saw Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band and the Mickey Hart Band, featuring Mickey Hart from the Grateful Dead & Dave Schools of Widespread Panic fame.  We also ran into lots of old friends, who were delighted to meet Tripp, some of them for the first time.

The following weekend, we ventured to Inman Park for their annual festival.  This festival featured some lesser known bands, but we really were there for the people watching this time.  ... and it did not disappoint.  Lots of interesting tattoos and creatively dressed folks...

It is so nice that Atlanta has so many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and good music in the spring.  It is something we look forward to every year, and Tripp seems to appreciate the change of scenery and pace.  All of these festivals are free, giving everyone an opportunity to participate.  Fun stuff!

Birthday De Mayo

Hola!  On Tripp's very first Cinco De Mayo, we celebrated with our friend, Olivia, as she turned 1.  Her party was a big hit, and everyone got in character for the Mexican Fiesta.  Adults enjoyed Coronas & Margaritas, while the kiddos enjoyed learning to share all of the toys & the spotlight.

Happy May Day! ... & Weekend Visit from Anne HJ

Happy May Day to everyone!  Can you believe it's already the 5th month of the year?  2012 is going by way too fast!

This weekend, we were lucky to have a visitor from Houston, Texas --- Anne HJ came to spend some time with us and we had a ball!  We had a visit from Shug and Susu, and spent lots of time outside in the courtyard and at the park.  The weather was BEAUTIFUL in Atlanta, so we took full advantage.  Below are some photos from her fun visit.

Unfortunately, we sent Anne home with the virus that plagued our house last week.  It was a nasty 12 hour stomach bug that made its way to everyone who interacted with Tripp over a 4 day period.  We are hopefully finished with the bug and can move on!

Stay tuned for a post about another of Tripp's 2012 resolutions, attending an Atlanta Spring festival.  We attended one each of the last 2 weekends, but only have photos from one of them.  More to come...
