2011 has been a good year.

It is hard to believe that 2012 is upon us.  It seems like just yesterday Matt & I were announcing to friends and family that we were expecting a new addition via the list below, and now it's already 2012.  Where did the time go?

10.  Brett Favre retires... maybe. [CHECK]

9.    The royal wedding of Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales to his commoner fiance, Kate Middleton on April 29th at Westminster Abbey in London. [CHECK]

8.    The non-royal wedding of my childhood friends & non-commoners Libby & Margaret to their respective beaus. [CHECK]

7.    The last daytime Oprah show [CHECK]

6.    The NKOTB and BSB collaborative reunion nostalgia tour. [CHECK]

5.    The cancellation of the following TV shows:  Keeping Up With the Kardashians, The Jersey Shore, and Dancing with the Stars (... hey, one can hope) [sadly, no CHECK here, but one of the Kardashians did get married and then divorced within 72 days, right?  That's gotta count for something.]

4.    The Auburn Tigers winning the BCS title. [CHECK]

3.    The return to mediocrity for the Auburn Tigers after all of our best players, including Cam Newton, find it more lucrative to play on Sundays than to play for Auburn. [Sadly, this one does get a CHECK.  Chick-fil-A bowl, here we come!]

2.    My niece, Ann Fulton Ferguson, celebrates her 1st birthday [CHECK]    

1.    The arrival of a non-royal, non-commoner new Roughen baby in June 2011! [CHECK]

PS.  In Tripp-related news, we do have some teeth working their way painfully through his gum line causing all kinds of disruptions to his sleep, among other things.  I will post a picture as soon as they break on through.

Five Friday Favorites: Websites!

This Friday, instead of featuring blogs that I follow, I will instead highlight five my favorite & most frequented websites (how's that for some festive & fun alliteration?!?!).  I am hopeful that some of you will become fans of these sites too!

In no particular order:

• Google Reader:  An easy & straightforward way to keep up with any blogs that you follow.  If you have a Google account, you already have a Google reader, but you may need to populate it by "subscribing" to blogs, like this one!  If you do not have a Google account... well, then, hope on into the 21st century and get you one!
• Dictionary.com:  I am constantly looking up new words that are foreign to my vocabulary, using the thesaurus feature, or verifying the meaning of words that I do use to ensure that I am, in fact, using them correctly.  It's the nerd in me.
• Zulily:  This is a GREAT site for new or expecting moms, as it has 'flash deals' that feature children's apparel, toys, and gear.  The deals are only available for a few days, but offer deep discounts on great children's items.  Warning:  You MAY become addicted.  Sign up today!
• Totsy:  Similar to Zulily, this is a 'flash deals' site for children's apparel, gear, toys, games, etc.  I find this one not quite as 'high end' as the Zulily vendors, but you can still score some great deals on some great stuff.  Again, addictive, but worth it if you're looking for deep discounts.
• Paperless Post:  A much more sophisticated and mature older sister to Evite and other online invitation websites, Paperless Post allows you to send beautiful invitations via email, saving you both printing and shipping costs without jipping your friends and family out of their impeccably designed Christmas card.  They now offer free photo Christmas cards, all virtual, and all beautiful!

Tripp Trims the Tree

This weekend was full of holiday goodness.  We supported Matt's customer, Home Depot, by buying a frasier fir Christmas tree from their lot (sorry, local tree farms!).  The experience was easy enough --- I think it was much less stressful than in the past because we were there bright and early on a beautiful Saturday morning, instead of waiting until what is apparently the more popular time, in the evening, like we usually do.  This brings to light yet another noted benefit of having an infant that is early to rise.

6 months!

It is hard to believe that Tripp has been with us for 6 months today!  It has been THE most fun, surprising, unpredictable, insanely busy, and crazy 6 months of my life thus far.  Below are a few things to note from Tripp's first 1/2 year on Earth... Bear with me, as this is a brain dump and may seem like incoherent rambling.

• Tripp is generally a happy baby.  He laughs a lot, enjoys meeting new people.  He has a great toothless grin and is always flashing it for any audience.
• He is currently eating any type of baby food.  Squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, peaches, pears, and pumpkin, to name a few.  We are starting to introduce some solid foods that do not come in a jar or pouch, or 'table foods.'  It is fun to watch him experience new tastes and textures.
• He is rolling over and sitting up, but not yet mobile (a blessing!).  However, It is not uncommon to find him scooting around the crib at night or during naps.
• Speaking of sleeping, Tripp is a great sleeper.  He generally sleeps 11 hours per night, from 7:30 pm to 6:30 am.  He takes a morning and afternoon nap during the day.
• He loves his voice, and wakes up each day making screeches, oohs, and aahs. Some of the sweetest sounds come from his crib in the morning.
• He loves daycare and the teachers adore him.  It is fun to watch them interact with him and also to observe him interacting with other infants.  I am glad that he's getting to experience playing with other children and learning to be social.
• Tripp has been a healthy baby.  He has had croup once and currently is getting over a mild ear infection, but otherwise, his immune system is working well.  He gets snotty and congested from time to time, but seems to kick it quickly.  We feel lucky for this and hope it continues (but don't want to jinx it!)
•  He is starting to teethe, as we can see the two lower teeth just below the surface of the gum.  He drools a lot and is gnawing on anything in his path, so we anticipate some teeth breaking through any day now.

Hope you all enjoyed this 6 month re-cap.  Thanks for allowing me to indulge.  I know I will enjoy reading it in another 6 months and again in 6 years.
